Media of Andaman & Nicobar includes the print media, radio stations and television channels.
The print media of Andaman & Nicobar Islands includes the newspapers and magazines. Due to coexistence of various communities, about 24 languages are spoken by the people in these islands. Due to the usage of wide variety of languages, here the newspapers and magazines too are published in different languages such as Tamil, English, Hindi and Bengali. There are about 27 magazines published in these languages from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
There are three daily newspapers published in Andaman & Nicobar Islands namely Andaman & Nicobar Dweep Samacharm which is published in Hindi, the Daily Telegrams published in English and Andaman Herald, also published in English. They play a crucial role in the media of Andaman & Nicobar.
The introduction of offset machines and technological inventions has increased the technical standard of the print media. Presently there are around 25 printing presses in these islands. Out of them, some are offsets. The raw materials used are paper and ink. The spare parts for the machines are brought from Kolkata and Chennai.
The daily newspapers provide the news and views from all over the world, information about the social events, sports and other entertainment. They keep this isolated region connected with the rest of the world. The magazines dedicated to various subjects such as sports, information technology, science, nature and history are also available in Andaman & Nicobar islands.
The radio is also an effective media of Andaman & Nicobar. It is heard by numerous people, anytime, anywhere. Previously, All India Radio was the only radio station in these islands. All India Radio Port Blair or Akashvani Port Blair broadcasts the news and various entertainment programs. Now-a-days, various FM channels are popping up and are giving All India Radio a run for its money. They have their presence in these remote islands too.
Andaman & NIcobar Islands are also connected to the world with various television channels, whose news and entertainment-based programmes are aired in the habited islands.
