This art gallery displays nearly 600 fabulous paintings, which are there for you throughout the year. The gallery is home to some fantastic collections of scenic beauties. As the name suggests, the gallery has an exhaustive collection of the great artist K. Venkatappa. The gallery also comprises of two halls, which have the Mathura stone sculptures and the sculptures from the Khajuraho School of Art. It also houses clay artifacts and pottery, which belong to the Indus Valley Civilizations.

The great painter K.Venkatappa was born in 1887.to a painter family. The collection contains some of his fine paintings of scenic beauty like Lake of Ooty, Sunrise at Ooty, Nilgiri Mountains at Kodaikanal, etc. These paintings, which are a treat to the eyes, are displayed on the ground floor of the gallery. The first floor of the gallery has masterpieces by various artists like M.F.Hussain, N.S.Bendre, Rekha Rao, and woodcarvings of C.P. Rajaram on display.

The second floor of the gallery is dedicated solely to the famous artist K.K.Hebbar. These paintings are beautiful depictions of the elements of nature like fire, water, and land. This Hebbar section has various titles like Vayu, Prithvi, Sea Shore, Jala, Nagamandala, In Space, Agni, Death and the Last Glimpse. There are other titles like Bali Village, Japan, and Mother also.

The Venkatappa Art Gallery is located within the premises of the Karnataka Government Museum, on the Kasturaba Road. Visit this exquisite collection of rare magnificent paintings. The gallery is open to all on all days except on Monday, from 10 am to 5 pm. The admission fee is a nominal Rs.10, which will enable you to explore this fascinating world of art.
