Media of Delhi

Hotel Chains in India

The media of Delhi offers a galore of exciting choices to its consumers. Delhi has presence of several newspaper conglomerates, and nearly all important magazine groups in Hindi and English languages have their distribution networks in Delhi. Hindustan Times, The Times of India, Indian Express, The Hindu, The Statesman, India Today, Outlook, Dainik Jagran, Navbharat Times and Anandbazar Patrika are some of the important newspapers and magazines of India, which have their presence in Delhi. The print media of Delhi is thriving. In the year 2004-2005, around 1029 newspapers were published in about 13 languages from Delhi. Out of these, 492 were the newspapers that were published in the Hindi language. Among the newspapers, Hindustan Times and The Times of India are the leaders in terms of circulation and readership. They virtually rule the print media of Delhi.

In the recent past, these two competitors have joined hands to create a newspaper named Metro Now, which is endowed with international style and look. Now India Today group has also made foray into the newspaper market with their morning newspaper.

So much for the print media, but Delhi's electronic media with players like NDTV and CNN-IBN is also extremely hot and crowded. Besides these prime news channels, all the national level entertainment channels, and almost all the regional channels are aired to Delhi homes. All India Radio (AIR) and many private radio stations broadcast their programmes from Delhi. Some important private radio stations having considerable popularity among the Delhi teenage crowd are 93.5 Red FM, Radio Mirchi (98.3 FM) and Radio City (91.1 FM).

As most of the newspapers and magazines worth their salt have their online presence nowadays, the virtual media has also taken the Delhites by storm. They are now not only confining themselves within the news of the mainstream media, but scanning blogs for alternative and often unofficial news and views.
