Sports of Delhi

Like most of India, cricket is a passion in Delhi. Delhi has several cricket grounds where, still in this age of satellite television and cyber entertainment, young boys play cricket in the sunny winter mornings. However, the most famous cricket venue of Delhi is the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, which happens to be one of the oldest venues of India for holding international level cricket matches. Hockey, football, tennis, go kart racing, badminton, golf are also quite popular sports of Delhi. For non-cricketing outdoor sports, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is the most popular venue, and Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium is ideal for holding national and international competitions of indoor sports like badminton and table tennis.

Sports in Delhi

Delhi has the distinction of holding the first and the ninth Asian Games and is selected as the venue for the Commonwealth Games, to be held in 2010. This recent distinction can give a fillip to the culture of sports in Delhi. Delhi is not only about history, architecture and politics.

Sports Complex Delhi

It can also be a preferred destination for adventure sports. The Delhi Tourism has created a leisure as well as multi-sports complex at the Bhalswa Lake, which is located towards the north-east edge of Delhi. Here there are many facilities for boating in speed boats and pedal boats, and also for canoeing, kayaking, etc. You can also go for fishing in this lake, if you are interested in doing so. Water scooters and hovercrafts are also introduced at this lake, which is the first time for Delhi. You can also paddle your way through amateur boating at the lake adjoining the Old Fort, and also at the lake near the India Gate, Prasad Nagar Lake and Naini Lake. Just 60 km away from Delhi, at Kanwar Shikha, near Sohna in Haryana, you can enjoy the adventure of parasailing. The Balloon Club of India on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg can offer you some wonderful options to not have your feet on the ground.

Balloons can hold from one to ten people, and float about 800 feet above the ground. Appu Ghar in Delhi has recently started ice games at Oysters. The activities range from skiing, ice boating and sledding. There are also amusement activities available for the grown-ups such as ice dance and rain dance, to the tunes of fast, rhythmic music.
