Akshardham Temple in New Delhi

The Akshardham Temple in New Delhi is a temple that is one of its kinds. The temple has been built recently. And it is constructed by Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha or commonly referred to as BAPS. Situated on the Yamuna river banks, the AksharDham Temple in New Delhi was opened to the public in November 2005. The temple is built on a similar concept of the Akshardham temple that is built in Gandhinagar in the state of Gujarat.

There are as many as 234 pillars, exquisite carvings on pavilions, floral motifs, and arches, ornate domes which are 9 in number and have as many as 20 shikhars which are quadrangle in shape. AksharDham Mandir in the capital city has 20, 000 statues. These statues are of the eminent devotees, acharyas, and sadhus of divine personality. To add to the beauty of the temple, you will also find musical fountain, a theater, and the Swaminarayan temple. The ambience of the temple is amazing.

An interesting aspect of the temple is that of late it has found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records owing to its size. The temple is one of the biggest Hindu temples. The temple is constructed on a huge area that is 86, 342 square feet. The temple is 141 feet in width and 356 feet in length.

The temple is at a distance of 9 to 10 km from New Delhi Railway Station provided you take the Ajmeri Gate as the exit point. You can take an auto rickshaw from the railway station or hire a cab to drive down to the famous Akshardham temple in New Delhi. You can also avail the Metro Rail.
