The sacred temples of Goa are revered by a galore of devotees. They throng the temples to seek blessings of the Goddess and offer their prayers. The Sri Navdurga Temple is a renowned and famous temple situated in the city. This age old temple is located in the small town of Marcaim.

The Sri Navdurga Temple is believed to have come into existence some 500 years ago and is enveloped by superb green surroundings which are a delight to the eyes. The temple was constructed again and was refurbished in the sixteenth century. The new edifice boasts of great structural design and is very appealing to the eyes. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Navdurga and many hundreds and thousands of devotees are regular visitors of the temple.

The main image of the Goddess is made out of stone. It is placed on a stage of sorts which is slightly elevated. This image is a unique image and the neck of the Goddess is turned in the left direction. This image is believed to depict Mahisasurmardini. You will find the image in the innermost area of the temple. It is placed in the middle of the temple in a sacred chamber.

The Sri Navdurga Temple is known for the festival of Kartika Vadya that it celebrates. This festival is celebrated with much pomp and splendour in great revelry and spirit. All of the devotees come together during this festival and enjoy it to the fullest. It attracts all the tourists and is indeed a unique and rare experience.

The temple is situated at a distance of about 9 km from Ponda. You can avail of the buses and the taxis or use private transport and reach the temple. Make sure you visit the temple while enjoying a stay in the city as it will definitely make your journey more memorable. It will add a divine spark to your journey.
