Scuba diving is one of the most frequently undertaken water sports in Goa. This is an exciting and fun sport if you are interested in exploring the underwater world of the fishes. Scuba diving in Goa provides you with an insight to the unexplored world of the sea. Scuba divers need to complete some specialized courses before they embark upon diving into the open sea.

Some requirements have to be fulfilled before you try your hand in scuba diving in Goa. The person has to have a reasonable degree of physical fitness. He should be able to swim for about 200m continuously and has to tread water for 10 minutes to be eligible for getting an open water certificate. He has to follow all the rules of diving, and should be minimum 10 years old. If you satisfy all these demands then you surely can indulge in scuba diving.

While you are scuba diving in Goa you can see the amazing variety of marine life, and hard corals flourishing on the sea floors. Though the visibility in Goa is around 4 to 12 meters, you can see little fishes swimming around you. Fishes to look for during your dive are the barracuda, damsels, snappers, sweet lips, tuna, lion fish, etc. The other marine life includes sea cumbers, blennies, turtles, lobsters, etc. Apart from these, the divers have reported of seeing ship wrecks which lie in the watery grave of the sea. During the Second World War a number of ships have drowned in the Arabian Sea. Many of these ships have not yet been rediscovered.

Some of the famous sites for scuba diving in Goa are Suzy's wreck, sail rock, turbo tunnel, shelter cave, etc. Every site has its own specialties. Like Suzy's wreck is a 30 meters Second World War ship wreck situated in the shallow waters, ranging from 3meters to 12 meters. This wreckage supports a wide variety of fishes like bat fish, angel fish, lion fish, barracudas, etc. This site is perfect for beginners who want to polish their talents in scuba diving.

Davy Jones locker is the other famous wreckage found in 14metres deep sea water. The stern sections with propellers are the only things remaining of this ship. Large schools of fish like jacks, tunas, mullets, etc. flourish at this site.

To see bigger fish like sting rays, sharks, groupers, etc. the tourists have to choose sites like sail rock and Uma Guma reef to go scuba diving in Goa. Sail rock should be visited by experienced divers as strong currents and surges prevail in this part of the sea. Uma Guma is an excellent diving site, if you want to witness exposed rocks of the grand island. The hard corals are major attractions of this place. Reef sharks and other fishes like the porcupine fish, etc. are spotted in large numbers at this site.

The diving season in Goa lasts from November to April. Many travel agencies provide equipments and training to the tourists interested in scuba diving in Goa. To witness the natural beauty of Goa through the point of view of a fish, tourists have to go for scuba diving session at the various diving sites in Goa.
