The wonderful hill resort of Dalhousie is situated about 92 km away from Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. Located at an altitude of about 2039 meters, this city occupies the area of about 14 km. It lies in the middle of five hills such as Potreyn, Kathlog, Balun, Bakrota and Tehra.
Dalhousie is a very famous tourist destination because of its fresh and healthy atmosphere and peaceful surroundings. Major tourist attractions in Dalhousie include churches, Lord James Ramsay, Satdhara, Khajjiar, Marquis of Dalhousie, Subhash Baoli and Panchpula. One can conveniently get to Dalhousie by plane, railway or road. The nearest airport is at Gaggal in Kangra, about 135 km away from Dalhousie. The nearest railway station is at Pathankot which is about 80 km away. Several buses and taxies are available at Pathankot to reach Dalhousie. One can get to Dalhousie by road from Chamba and Delhi.
G.P.O. is the chief market in Dalhousie. It is named as G.P.O. market due to the post office located there. At the distance of about 1km from G.P.O. square is Subhash Baoli. It is a very fascinating spot surrounded by the lush green trees. It is named after Subhash Chandra Bose who spent some time during 1937. One can have a magnificent view of the Dhauladhar range. Few kilometers away from Subbhash Baoli is the Jandhri Ghat. The region was ruled by the Chamba Rulers. One can find the remnants of Chamba Rulers in the palace.
Panchpula is another interesting spot located about 3 km away from Dalhousie. This picturesque spot has a monument built in the memory of Sardar Ajit Singh, a great freedom fighter. On the way to Panchpula, there is a beautiful spot namely Satdhara located at the altitude of about 2036 meters. This spot has seven springs with great therapeutic value. They have mica with medicinal properties.
Dalhousie houses four fascinating churches namely St Patrick's Church and St. Andrew's Church at Balun, St John's Church at Gandhi Chowk and St Francis Church at Subhash Chowk. The Catholic Church of St Francis, constructed in 1894, is one of the most magnificent churches.
The plain of Khajjiar is one of the most wonderful retreats for the visitors. It is situated at the distance of about 27km from Dhoudar. This spot consists of a small temple of Khajjinag dating back to 12th century and a golf course. This picturesque place with its emerald meadow is ideal for spending the relaxing vacations. There are many interesting tourist attractions around Dalhousie. Bara Pathar is nearly 4km away from Dalhousie hosting a small temple of Bhulwani Mata. The place is popular for the fair celebrated in the month of July. Dainkund is another place of interest, 10km away from Dalhousie. It is located at an altitude of about 2,745 meters. It offers the panoramic views of picturesque valleys and the rivers Ravi, Beas and Chenab.
Other interesting places in Dalhousie are Chamba Chaugan, Upper Bakrota, Lakshminarayan Temple and the Bhuri Singh Museum.
