Many picturesque places await you in and around the magnificent Dharamshala. Kareri is such a place, which simply enthralls the tourists. It is located at a distance of around 22 km from Dharamshala. Kareri is a small quaint village, which sits pretty in the district of Kangra, at an altitude of 2166 metres.

Kareri is thronged by scores of tourists, and the place will surely leave you in awe of its beauty. On your way, you will also come across the path which takes you to the Dhauladhar Sanctuary. This place is enveloped with greenery all around which includes tall pine trees. Apart from the pine trees, you will also find stretches of green fields which are a delight to the eyes. In the Karari village, you will also come across a rest house, which is the best place in this green hamlet to enjoy a comfortable stay.

The Kareri Lake is the most popular tourist spot here and it is frequented by many people. From here, you can capture the beauty of the surrounding Kangra valley and the imposing Dhauladhar mountain ranges. The lake is surrounded by green meadows and dense pine and oak woods, which add to the charm of the environment. The lake is situated at the foot of a pass known as the Minkiani Pass.

Apart from the lake, you will also find many attractions nearby. These include some temples like the Saint Durbasa Temple and the Kali Temple. These temples are also worth visiting. You can also visit the Dal Lake and the Guna Devi Temple, which are very popular among the tourists. The vast unexplored lands of Kareri make it an ideal place for the adventure lovers. Here you can try your hand at trekking and rock climbing. You can trek up to a place called Triund, situated close by.

While sauntering through Kareri, you will come across the typical Gaddis tribe residing here. Kareri is accessible by air, road and railways. The Gaggal airport is the closest airport, and the Pathankot railway station is the closest railway line. You can also travel by road from Mcleodganj, which is located at a distance of about 22 km from this wonderland. The sylvan village of Kareri must be included in your Dharamshala itinerary, where you can feel very intimate with nature.
