Macleodganj, located in Himachal Pradesh, India, is a very popular place among the tourists. The place breathes Buddhism and is fondly known as the 'Little Lhasa'. It is just 9 km away from the serene Dharamshala and is situated in the Kangra Valley. It is renowned all over as the headquarters of the Tibetan Government in exile and the abode of the present Dalai Lama.

Apart from the temple, Dal Lake and Dharamkot are also nearby tourist attractions. Dharamkot Both of these gateways are ideal for picnics and outings. From Dharamkot, you can get majestic views of Dhauladhar ranges. You can reach these places on foot and seep in the beauty of the picturesque Kangra Valley on your way. The Namgyalma Stupa is also an important structure and is a memorial dedicated to all the Tibetans, who breathed their last in the struggle for an independent Tibet.

In Macleodganj you can find fascinating glimpses of Tibet. This makes it the perfect place to indulge in some shopping which will give you a taste of the Tibetan artifacts and apparel. Typical Tibetan carpets are a must buy. In addition to the carpets, you can also opt for the woolen clothes which include gloves and pullovers. Strolling around the markets is the best way in which you can get acquainted with the Tibetan culture. Kotwali Bazaar is a much sought after market here.

Macleodganj not only basks in the climate of spirituality, but also infuses a spirit of rejuvenation. The town also houses the Tibetan Medical and Astrology Institute which propagates and furthers the age-old and authentic Tibetan medical techniques. Some interesting activities held here include astrology and natural therapy, which attract numerous tourists. When you have finished exploring the streets and the entire place, you can also go in for the exciting excursions. These include Palampur and Triund. All these places are extremely pretty and the breathtaking locales will leave you in awe.

Macleodganj is accessible by air, road and railways. The Gaggal airport is the closest airport, located at a distance of about 15 km. The Nagrota and Kangra are the closest railway stations.
