Kenilworth Group of Hotels had a humble beginning in the year of 1911 when Calcutta was a city under change. That evolutionary attitude of the city, epitomized by Trams, electricity, automobiles and a struggle for independence, can still be felt through the corridors of this colonial era bungalow with 40 rooms for accommodation.

The building past several hands before finally resting with the an American couple who transformed the face of the bungalow into a luxurious hotel. Each room was distinctly decorated and fitted with air-conditioners. Even today, the hotel keeps renovating and upgrading its facilities to suite the changing tastes and interests of the guests and vacationers.

Though the old building was mowed down to make way for a 100-room hotel in 1982, seeds of change had already been sowed in this archaic structure. The famous Mikado Bar that made Calcutta sway on its feet with its heady concoctions was rechristened the Alcove. Alcove still continues to command the same popularity from the visiting tourists too.

The concept of open-air restaurants became a reality with Maikhana, first of its kind in Kolkata. The Marble room, a specialty restaurant, joined in to make the dining experience at the Kenilworth Hotel a wholesome one.
