About Umaid Bhawan Palace

Built from 1929 AD to 1943 AD by 3000 artisans, the Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur is the largest private residence in the world with 347 rooms.. Designed by Edwardian architect, Henry Vaughan Lanchester, the palace was convened as famine relief project by Maharaja Umaid Sigh. The part of the palace has been converted into a luxury heritage hotel and the other part is still retained by the present Maharaja Gaj Singh II as his private residence.

75 spacious and elegant rooms at Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur are categorized into Deluxe Rooms, Regal Suites, Maharaja Suite and Maharani Suite. The rooms are done in distinct Art Deco style with regal ambiance. The rooms feature color television with cable connection, two-line speaker phone with international direct dial facility, daily newspaper, mini bar/fridge, tea/coffee percolator, in-room safe and hair dryer. Maharani Suite, the personal quarter of the Maharani of Maharaja Umaid Singh, features Goddess Kali in Norblin mural. Done in pink, black, chrome and mirror, the suite includes drawing room, dining room, kitchenette, large balcony, dressing and a bathroom made of single piece of Italian marble designed by Norblin. Maharaja Suite is the private quarters of Maharaja Umaid Singh. The décor of the suite includes murals of leopards, tigers, horses and torch lamps. The Rublmann sofas made of leopard skin and secret bar completes the interior of the suite.

Get an experience of a lifetime while dining at the Taj Group of Hotels. The flavor, the aroma and the taste will linger on your mouth long after you have left the dining hall. Risala, the name of one of the restaurants at Umaid Bhawan Palace means cavalry in Hindi. The restaurant is done to commemorate the victory of the Jodhpur Lancers over the Turks at Hafia in 1918 AD. The menu list includes Continental and Indian dishes with selected Indian and imported wines. The Pillars is the coffee shop in the backside of the western porch of the palace. The Trophy Bar is adorned with elephant-foot stools, tiger skin cushions, wild boar tusks, binoculars, assortment of fishing gears and memorabilia of hunting, fishing and pig sticking. The collection of wines and liquors is as exotic as the curios decorated in the bar.

Ali Akbar is the theater within the hotel with the seating capacity of 100 people.
