The festivals add color to human life, especially if it is Holi, a festival of colors. Rabindranath Tagore, the founder of Visva Bharati University, was inspired by the spirit of Holi. Hence, he introduced the Vasanta Utsav, the festival of spring, in his Viswa Bharati University. During this festival, the youth and students of Shantiniketan attired in colorful dresses, particularly yellow, celebrate Holi in a very unique way. This festival is celebrated at the time of Holi, usually in the month of March.

During Vasanta Utsav, several cultural programs such as songs, group choreography and dance performances are held at Shantiniketan. These programs offer a great opportunity to the students to reveal their talents. They wholeheartedly welcome the month of spring through their beautiful songs. When the program is over, all the students and staff in the university enjoy Holi using gulal and abeer. The abeer is a colored powder especially prepared for playing Holi. The students are busy in smearing and dying each other. The entire atmosphere becomes infused with joy and enthusiasm. This Vasanta Utsav in Shantiniketan is considered a milestone of Bengali culture, and has been attracting plenty of international tourists. They can also participate in this festival and play with abeer.

Visit Shantiniketan during the Vasanta Utsav and be a part of the enthusiastic and vigorous enjoyment.
