Sawai Jai Singh II built the Raj Mahal, which was earlier known as Ranawatji-ka-Bagh, for his queen Maharani Chandra Kumar Ranawatji. It remained neglected for quite sometime but it regained its glory after Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II moved into the Palace. In 1980, after the royal family moved to another palace, Raj Mahal was converted into a Heritage Hotel.
