Museums of Jaipur

The interesting museums of Jaipur include Albert Hall, Dolls Museum and the City Palace Museum. The Albert Hall was built in 1886 AD by Colonel Sir Swinton Jacob, in honour of the King Edward the Seventh's visit to Jaipur.

The mansion, built in Indo-Saracenic style, is centrally located amidst the beautiful Ram Niwas Garden, surrounded by pools, fountains and rows of flowerbeds. The stately structure houses a collection of rare paintings, which date back to a few hundred years' old, exquisite jewellery, chiseled brassware, pottery and natural stones, ivory goods, metal sculptures and crystal works.

Besides portraying the culture of India and Rajasthan, the place also displays Egyptian mummies and dolls and toys of various countries. The highlight among the displays is the magnificent Persian Garden Carpet at the Durbar Hall, depicting the Garden of Paradise.

One of the most fascinating museums of Jaipur is the Doll's Museum, where dolls from various countries are presented in their traditional costumes. The dolls represent various cultures and traditions, and primarily attract children. The dolls featuring the national costumes of countries from all over the world are striking and realistic. It creates a surrealistic fairy tale. The educative museum offers an effective way to teach students about diversity. The museum, built in 1974, is about four kilometers from the city center. The museum also has exhibits of dolls from various states of India.

The City Palace Museum is one of the important museums of Jaipur which has an astonishing array of manuscripts and scriptures. Diwan-I-Am, the hall for the public, has an interesting collection of displays. The original parchments and ancient manuscripts of Hindu scriptures are exhibited here for public viewing.

Miniature copies of Bhagwat Gita, the holy book of the Hindus, written to be saved from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's prejudice towards other faiths, are also found in this museum. Paintings on Mughal art and Persian school of art grace the halls, besides the murals of Rajput culture. A private hall displaying the world's greatest silver objects, which include two huge silver vessels, draws every visitor's attention. The museum is of great architectural style and has magnificent well-preserved chandeliers and ceilings.

This majestic palace still is home to the royal family but it preserves the century-old legacies through its museum. The museums of Jaipur are worth visiting and give us an insight into the rich culture and history of this wonderful city.
