Garden Tours of Bangalore

Bangalore is one of the most vibrant cities of India. This city not only has many heritage sites but also is famous for its gardens and parks. You will find numerous gardens and parks dotted around the Bangalore city. All the gardens in the city, whether big or small, are well preserved, hence Bangalore is also known as the Garden City. Many tourists come on the garden tours of Bangalore. These gardens are the only places that provide peace in the bustling city of Bangalore.

The gardens of Bangalore are alluring to the locals as well as the tourists. Most of these gardens have exotic flowering plants. The gardens of Bangalore not only conserve endangered species, but also give the people a place to spend quality time with their family and friends.

During your garden tours of Bangalore, you can visit the famous Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens. This is one of the oldest gardens in Bangalore. Hyder Ali, ruler of Mysore, made this garden. This garden is spread over an area of 240 acres, located in the southern part of Bangalore. It is said that over 1000 species of plants have been planted in this garden. Tipu Sultan, the son of Hyder Ali, has brought most of the tropical plants to this garden.

Tourists make it a point to visit the Lal Baugh Botanical Gardens at some point during their garden tours of Bangalore. In the 1870s, Johan Cameron, the superintendent of this garden, imported some exotic flower plants from the Kew Gardens of London.

Today, the garden authorities organize various flower shows to promote and inform the people of the different plants found in this garden. There is a special flower show on 26th January, this show is a must see for all the nature lovers. Tourists coming for their garden tours of Bangalore during the months of January can visit the garden to see the flower show.

The other attractions of this garden are the floral clock and the glass house. This glass house was built on the lines of the Crystal Palace of London. Pencil penders and champak trees surround this glass house. Tourists can also look out for the statue of Chamaraja Wodeyar of Mysore and the Lal Baugh Rock. This rock is about 3000 million years old and hence is one of the oldest rock formations on earth. This garden opens at around 8 am and closes at 8 pm.

Tourists frequently visit the Cubbon Park, which was established in 1864, during their garden tours of Bangalore. Richard Sankey who was the Chief Engineer of Mysore, started this park. The park is named after Sir Mark Cubbon, as he was the longest serving Commissioner of Bangalore.

The Cubbon Park is bursting with exotic flowering plants and sprawling lawns. The visitors can rest in the shady trees, which are spread throughout the garden. As this park is spread over a huge area of 334 acres, tourists can unwind by taking long walks in the garden. The various exotic species of flowers and trees are the distinct feature of this garden.

The Cubbon Park also has various other tourist attractions nearby. They include the Attara Kacheri, Government Museum, Aquarium, Venkatappa Art Gallery and the Visveswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum. These buildings have a classical British architecture, which is very distinctive.
