Karwar Beach, Karnataka, India

Karwar in Karnataka is the district head office of the Uttara Kannada. Karwar, located approximately 100 km from Goa, has some beautiful beaches where one could relax and enjoy the thrills of sun, sea and sand. There are various holy pilgrim centers and historical places around the Karwar beach. Karwar lies on a slim band of sand and it is surrounded by the Western Ghats on the eastern side and Arabian Sea on the west.

Karwar beach has all the attributes of an idyllic beach holiday destination which include calm waves, a peaceful environment with green plants, and miles of golden sand. The attractive land ringed with rocky hill ranges, dense forests and valleys once encouraged the great Indian poet and Nobel Prize winner, Rabindranath Tagore, to write his first drama.

Various tourist attractions at Karwar beach include Dargah of Peer Shan Shamsudin Kharobat, Naganatha Temple, Venkatrama Temple and Durga Temple. The popular Dargah of Peer Shamsudin is a tomb of a Baghdadi saint and famous as a pilgrimage. Naganatha Temple is another religious place at Karwar beach. Here people worship an anthill. The Kurmagad Island houses a Narsimha Temple and an ancient fort. The famous Durga Temple is located on the Sadashivgad Fort. Apart from that, the fort houses a church and an old temple of Venkatrama, which is adorned with some beautiful paintings.

Tourists can enjoy sunbathing at Karwar beach and taste the mouth-watering spicy seafood and vegetarian delicacies prepared with coconut. The period between October to May is considered as the ideal tourist season. There are some good hotels at Karwar beach, where tourists can stay. Devbagh Beach Resort is one among them. Tourists can savour multi cuisine dishes at the restaurant of the hotel named as Gol Ghar. Along with enjoying the Karwar beach, trekking and bird watching through the forests at Devbagh is another wonderful tourist option.
