Nandi Hills is located at an altitude of about 1478 meters, about 60 km away from Bangalore. The Nandi Hills derives its name from the Nandi temple, situated on the hill, where a thousand-year-old sculpture of Nandi the bull is there. Also called as Nandidurga, Nandi Hills was one of the summer retreats of Tipu Sultan. Besides the remnants of Tipu's fort, here you will also come across many British bungalows. It is an ideal destination to spend the weekends in the pollution-free environment.
Kermana Gundi is situated on the Baba-Budan range, at an altitude of about 1434 meters in Tarikere Taluka of Chikmaglur District. It is also named as K R Hills after the Wodeyar King Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. Kermana Gundi served as a summer resort for Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. It is one of the best places to spend the summer vacation in the cool environment.
Madikeri is a charming, picturesque city located at an elevation of about 1,525 meters. It offers the panoramic views of beautiful surroundings.
Biligiri Hills is located about 120 km away from Mysore and 247 km away from Bangalore. The Biligirirangana range of hills lies between the Tungabhadra and Cauvery rivers. The hill is stretched for about 16 km from north to south. It is surrounded by dense forests, with attractive flora and fauna.
The picturesque hill station of Kudremukh is situated at a distance of about 95 km from Chikmaglur city. It is named as Kudremukh due to the unique horse face like shape of Kudremukh Peak. One can have breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea and serene hills from this peak. It is an isolated hill station not yet discovered by the run-of-the-mill tourists. Here grassy slopes, green forests, exuberant cascades and rare orchids make it a dream-come-true destination for trekking.
Chikmaglur is one of the most popular hill stations of Karnataka. It is located in the picturesque valley of Babu-Budan range. Its name is derived from the town of Chikmaglur that means 'younger daughter's town'. It is believed that the town was given to the younger daughter of Rukmangada- a legendary chieftain-as a dowry. Hiremaglur, which was given to his elder daughter, is now a part of Chikmaglur. This hill station is dotted with numerous tourist attractions including the Jamia Mosque, the Kondadarama Temple and the new St. Joseph's Cathedral.
Surrounded by the thick forests, Gangamoola hill is situated in the Samse Taluka of Chikmaglur district. Three mighty rivers namely the Bhadra, Tunga and Nethravathi originate from the Gangamoola hill. A varaha (wild boar) image within a cave and Goddess Bhagavathi shrine are the highlights of the region.
