The Bandipur National Park is one of the most enthralling wildlife centers situated at the foot of Nilgiri Hills. Maharajas of Mysore established it in 1931. The forest of the park is quite dense and evergreen with three major rivers flowing through. Nugu flows through in the middle of the park, Kabini and Moyar are other two rivers which rinse the sanctuary.

Bandipur National Park is home to a variety of birds and animals living in natural habitat. Rare species of various animals and birds can be seen here. The hardwoods like teakwood and rosewood are also found here. The animals like deer, peacock and antelope can be easily seen. However, tigers are elephants are rarely seen. Other animals residing in the park are golden jackal, stripped hyaena, leopard, chital, Indian grey mongoose and many more. Gopalswamy Betta (hill) is the highest point in the Bandipur National Park. There is a temple of Lord Venugopal situated on this hill.

Bandipur National Park is located on the highway connecting Ooty and Mysore, so it is very convenient to reach here by bus. Mysore is the nearest railway station, while Bangalore is the nearest airport. The accommodation facilities are also available at this park. There are well-maintained budget lodges, cottages and rest houses, developed by the forest department.

Jeep safari is the best way to roam around Bandipur National Park and sight the animals. Forest department conducts these jeep safaris. You can even enjoy the park by taking elephant rides, which is also organized by forest department. There is also mini bus safari available. If you possess the experience of trekking, then you can take permission from the forest department and have an adventurous experience of trekking.

Bandipur National Park gives you the opportunity to observe the animals and birds in their glorious natural habitat.
