Mysore is a city located in the southern state of Karnataka. It is the second most important city in the state after Bangalore, which happens to be the capital city of the state. Mysore is a city with a rich cultural legacy and history. Today it has become a hub of activity and is progressing at a very fast pace. Shopping in Mysore is a wonderful and memorable experience. Mysore silk is very famous. Sarees and dress materials made of this silk are a must buy. Incense sticks, sandalwood, handicrafts, stone carvings, etc. are also available at very reasonable rates in various emporia of the city.
Apart from the above mentioned things, sight seeing is also an important thing to be done in Mysore. The important places of attraction include Mysore Palace, Tipu Sultan's Dariya Daulat Bagh in Srirangapatnam, Chamundi temple, Halebidu temple built by Hoysala kings, Somnathpur temple, Jaganmohana Palace, Nagarhole National Park, etc. There are a few places which are located away from the main city. They include Talakhad, Bandipur National Park, Cauvery fishing camp and many more. Excursions to these places are very enjoyable.
Special trips to Mysore can be conducted during the Dussehra celebrations. The festival is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur. It is recommended that a visit to Mysore is a must during the festival to witness the splendour.
