Coorg is a picturesque hilly district, located in the state of Karnataka. The city of Mysore is the closest city from Coorg. This district is dotted with red-tiled cottages, which attracts tourists. The small town of Madikeri is the headquarters of this district. Tourist attractions in and around Coorg are plenty, which the tourists coming here must explore.

The town of Madikeri and the Madikeri Fort has a prominent place when it comes to tourist attractions in and around Coorg. The town of Madikeri is located 125 Kms from Mysore. As this town is at an elevation of 1,525 mtrs, it is surrounded by exotic plantation of coffee. While exploring the streets of Madikeri you will come across beautiful views of the mountains and valleys.

Tourists have also reported of seeing a variety of bird and animal life, while in Coorg. If you come across a wild elephant do not get surprised or frightened, for these elephants wander in search of coconuts and papayas, and their intrusion in the civilization is commonplace here. The natural tourist attractions in and around Coorg include the Iruppu Falls, Abbey Falls and the Raja's Seat. The Abbey Falls is located 8 kms from Madikeri. This place is perfect for picnics, but as there is no regular transport, tourists have to make private arrangement to reach this place. The Iruppu Falls are at a distance of 91 Kms from Madikeri. This place is a recognized pilgrim centre. It is believed that these falls have some association with Lord Rama. Both these destinations attract nature lovers who come here in search of scenic natural delights.

Tourists can go on small excursions while visiting the tourist Attractions in and around Coorg. The Talcauvery, Nagarhole National Park and the Horticulture Research Centre are some places which shouldn't be missed from the tourists' itinerary.

The Talacauvery is the origin site of river Cauvery. It is believed that on the day of Tula Sankaramana i.e. on 17 October, the spring water gushes from here with extra force. The Nagarhole National Park is 93 Kms from Madikeri. This place teems with native flora and fauna. Tourists can observe the swift footed deer, elephants, monkeys, etc. in their glorious natural habitat. If the tourists are lucky enough, they can even see the tigers roaming in the dense forests of the national park.
