The magnificent Shree Siddhivinayak Temple, placed in Prabhadevi, in the city of Mumbai is a revered and significant temple. This temple holds a special place in the hearts of all the ardent devotees of Lord Ganesha. The temple is devoted to Lord Ganesha, and thousands of devotees throng the temple every single day.
Shree Siddhivinayak Temple was constructed by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patel in 1801. The temple is renowned all over the world for the various beliefs and miracles associated with it. Here a number of devotees line up to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha before they commence with any new work or undertaking.
The renovations done here have led to superb architecture and interiors of the temple. The temple was renovated in 1990. Primarily marble and pink granite stones are used in this six storied structure, which is crowned by a gold plated dome. The idol is made out of black stone and has four hands. The upper right hand holds a lotus while the upper left hand holds an axe. The idol holds holy beads in the lower right hand, and a bowl of Modaks (a sweet delicacy, known to be a favourite of Lord Ganesha) on the lower left hand. A peculiar feature of this idol is that the trunk tilts to the right direction instead of the left. The idols of two Goddesses, Riddhi and Siddhi, flanks the deity. They symbolise prosperity, fulfilment and sanctity.
At the Sri Siddhivinayak Temple, devotees can offer a variety of pujas. The Panchamrut Puja and the Satyanarayaa Puja are two of the most popular pujas. The temple celebrates the Ganesha Chaturthi festival- the most popular festival of Maharashtra - on a grand scale with much pomp and splendour. During the festival, many thousands of devotees queue up in front of the temple to catch a glimpse of their favourite deity. Also Tuesday is devoted to Lord Ganesha and thus a regular set of devotees are found in the temple on every Tuesday. The temple is visited by many famous personalities who come to the temple religiously. People offer coconuts and garlands of flowers to the Lord. Near the temple you will find the phool gali here where you will get all the necessary things for the puja and darshan.
At four in the morning the temple opens its doors, and the temple closes its doors at 9.30 at night. The Sri Siddhivinayak Temple offers services to devotees residing outside the country too. The temple has made facilities for online pujas and darshans, which are very popular among Hindus living abroad.
