This is the place where the Hindus offer Pinda to their ancestors. In the olden days, Jajpur was a flourishing center for the trade and commerce in the city. Kendrapara is another popular place bearing the deity of Lord Baladeva. Kendrapara is also referred as the "Tulasi Kshetra" of Orissa. Every year, an impressive and an extra ordinary Car Festival is held attracting huge fleet of crowds. It is said that Baladeva killed Kandarasura demon and then married his daughter "Tulasi". Hence the name "Tulasi Kshetra" is derived.

There is a wonderful beach, fascinating water bodies with evergreen forests that surround the islands of the River Mahanadi and beautiful creeks. The Bhitarkanika Sanctuary and National Park is also located in Cuttack, Orissa. It is the second largest forest of mangroves in the country. It has gained popularity for preserving the estuarine crocodiles from the year 1975. The Gahirmatha is famous form the Giant Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. These turtles travel every year from South America in thousands and millions come to nest in this National Park. A number of migratory birds can also be seen nesting across the mangrove islands.
The Barabati Fort in Cuttack represents the ancient past of the city. It is noteworthy seeing the dilapidations of the medieval fort along with the moat and gate. Just in the neighbourhood to this fort there is a modern stadium. A sacred shrine called the Quadam-i-Rassol is a place of visit for both the Hindus as well as Muslims. Here there are towers and compound walls at every corner. There are three mosques inside, housing a Nawabat Khana which means a music gallery, and beautiful domes. It is an object of reverence for both the Hindus and the Muslims.
There is a small island named Dhavaleswar in the river Mahanadi that is located on a hillock. It is a new structure but you can view the 10th and 11th century sculptures in the premises of the temple. Being in Cuttack, you cannot afford to miss its famous fast food items such as the Aloo Dum, Gupchup, Dahi Bara, etc. They are found in abundance on the street side food centers and are very fabulous to taste.
