Apart from the famous Surya Mandir or the Sun Temple, Konark has other attractions too. The Archaeological Museum is a famous place for tourists. A visit to this museum is an enthralling experience. You can witness the cultural evolution of Orissa by sauntering through this museum and viewing its enchanting artifacts.

This Archaeological Museum is located on the north of the Sun Temple. complex This museum is home to a number of priceless antiques. In its four galleries, the museum houses nearly 260 antique pieces, which are gathered from the excavations carried out at the Sun Temple. The Archaeological Museum of Konark was established in 1968.

The first gallery of b consists of sculptures from the Sun Temple. This gallery houses 62 antiquities. These sculptures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are simply fascinating. There are a number of beautiful sculptures in this gallery. The traditional scenes of wedding ceremony are depicted in these sculptures. This gallery houses various figurines of numerous incarnations of Lord Vishnu, which are really a treat to the eyes.

The second gallery of this Archaeological Museum is flooded with diverse collection of cult objects. This collection contains objects like carvings of varied flora and fauna, stone carved celestial nymphs,etc. There are in all 108 antiquated beautiful objects in this gallery.

In the third gallery, an awesome collection of object of art exudes excellent craftsmanship. This gallery of museum has images of Narayan, Sun God, Gaja-Vyala and some exquisite pictures of king and his battle troops. This gallery exhibits some erotic figures and many fine images. There are 45 objects on display in this gallery.

The fourth gallery has been organized recently. This gallery has 45 exquisite articles. This gallery has awesome statues like that of a man tied in trunk of an elephant, a roaring lion, a crocodile head, and a part of the Surya statue, a king witnessing dance, salabhanjikas, swans with garland in their beaks, erotic couples, and an elephant on pilaster.

The corridors of Archaeological Museum are best utilized by displaying archaeological sites and ancient monuments. The evolution of culture of Orissa can be witnessed in its corridors.

The Archaeological Museum is for all and has a nominal entrance fee of Rs 5 per head. The opening hours of the museum are from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening. The museum is closed on Fridays.
