Air Force Museum located next to the technical area gate of Palam Air Force Station is one of the most interesting and intriguing museums of the capital. It gives a comprehensive and exhaustive history of the Indian Air Force and all its military expeditions till date. The museum has a fine collection of photographs, models, souvenirs, memorials, real vintage aircrafts as well as modern sophisticated aircrafts that would definitely amuse any visitor and make his trip an enriching experience.
Adorned with a rare and rich collection of variety of photographs, the museum pays tribute to its heroes right from the days of Royal flying Corps during the World War I & II. Roll of Honor Gallery, Air Chiefs Gallery, Operations Photos, Captured Weapons, Aircraft Models, Uniforms and Mementoes are the various indoor galleries that have on display different things like the old and new uniforms, models, badges, brevets and insignia of Air Force before and after Independence apart from the large collection of war and peace time photographs. The attractions here are the captured weapons and the memorial sections.
The Hanger of the museum contains most interesting display housing different types of military aircrafts including Westland, the first plane to fly through Khyber Pass in 1929. The Night fighter variant of the Vampire, two-hunter fighter-bomber, the first generation Dassault Ouragan, the Sikorsky Whirlwind, MiG-21 and the Sukhoi-7are some of the priced possessions of the museum. Just outside the main hangar lie the other intriguing displays of captured vehicles and aircraft wreckages. It informs about the various thrilling encounters of Indian Air Force that has made the country proud of them since their inception.
There is also a souvenir shop within the museum premises where visitors can purchase key chains, t-shirts and chinaware.
Special Event / Annual Event
Every year on 8th October, which is celebrated as Air Force Day, visitors can view the unique larger transport aircrafts kept in the flight apron of Palam Air Base apart from the special parade of Indian Air Force.
