The gallery acquires, preserve and display works of modern art from mid 19th century onward.

Before entering the stately rooms of the palace for viewing different works of art, do look at the magnificent sculptures in the gardens of the palace by some well-known names including the 'Triumph of Labour' by D.P.Roy Choudhary. In the gallery there are exquisite works of Abanidranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Gaganendranath Tagore, Amrita Shergil, Raja Ravi Verma and Jamini Roy and other revered artists of recent times that adorns the walls of the gallery. Whether it is 'Lady in Moonlight' by Raja Ravi Verma or 'Flowerface' by Abanidranath Tagore or watercolors by Gaganendranath Tagore, almost every work of the gallery attracts you and converse with you.

Among the international artists, the collection of NGMA includes works of Jacob Epstein, Giorgio de Chirico, Peter Lubarda, Henry Moore, Sonia Delaunay and Kozo Mio.
