Heritage Tours of Jodhpur

The heritage tours of Jodhpur give us a unique experience of its own kind. Rajasthan is famous for its desert and the city of Jodhpur is situated in the desert of Thar. This city was founded by Rao Jodha, in 1459 AD.

The heritage of Jodhpur is reflected in the songs that are sung in the praise of gallant heroes of the land. The main languages spoken by the people of Jodhpur are Hindi, Marwari and Rajasthani. This land is famed for the brave warriors of Rathore clan, who fought for the freedom of the land. Many forts and havelis stand testimonies to the grandeur of the Jodhpuri heritage.

The people of Jodhpur are considered as the most hospitable people of India. They greet you with their typical Marwari accent. Here people wear costumes that are rich in colour.

Women wear ghagars; wide gathered skirts, hip length jackets and three quarter length sleeve, which are of typical Marwari style. Women in Jodhpur also adorn themselves with various trinkets. They just love to wear jewellery on many parts of body like feet, head, forehead, ear, nose, neck, arms, wrists, fingers, and waist. This adds to their vibrant charm. The bright contrasting turbans worn by men have a dazzling effect on their multihued attire. The city is famous for the popular tight, horse riding trousers called 'Jodhpurs'. Equally famous are the embroidered leather shoes that go with traditional 'Jodhpurs.'

One must schedule heritage tours of Jodhpur in October when the famous Marwar Festival or Maand Festival is being held. This festival has become an integral part of the Jodhpur tradition. Obviously this festival attracts the tourists from all over India and abroad alike. This festival is exclusively devoted to the traditional songs and dance of the Marwar region. The festival is held on the Sharad Poornima, for two days. This festival displays the classical song and dances that are rooted in this land. Artistes perform their arts with zest. The myths and legends of the region are brought to life by the performance, and songs are sung in memory of heroes. There are other attractions too, like horse riding and polo. Various races are also being held during the festival.

Jodhpur has a number of forts and palaces, but the huge Mehrangarh Fort and the majestic Umaid Bhavan Palace must be included in the itinerary of your heritage tours of Jodhpur. Nowadays some palaces are converted into heritage hotels. These are run by some of the premier groups in the business. The Umaid Bhavan Palace hotel is quite luxurious. The hospitality of this hotel exudes with regal splendour and gives you the opportunity to experience the lifestyle of the Rathore kings.

Besides Mehrangarh Fort and the Umaid Bhavan Palace, Jaswan Thada and Rai-ka-Bagh Palace must also be included in the heritage tours of Jodhpur. The city is also full of temples, which must also be covered in your heritage tours of Jodhpur. Raj Ranchhodji Temple, Siddhanth Shiv Temple, Achal Nath Shivalaya, Ganesh Temple and Ossian Temples can be part of your religious trip into the heritage of Jodhpur.
