Festivities of Rajasthan include the Gangaur Festival, which is generally held in Jaipur, during the months of March-April. This festival is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva's consort. This is a festival where young girls pray to obtain the life partner of their choice and women who are married, pray for their spouse's well being. This festival lasts for about eighteen days and is full of various activities. The festival ends with a grand procession, signifying the arrival of Lord Shiva to escort Goddess Parvati to his home. The Nagaur Fair, held in the month of January and February, is an animal fair. This fair also features some exciting sports.
A few other important festivals which are integral parts of the festivities of Rajasthan include the Mewar Festival, which welcomes the spring season with exuberant singing, dancing, processions, fireworks and music, and the Elephant Festival in Jaipur which is celebrated during Holi- the festival of colours- where hordes of elephants dressed in their finery take part in several sports.
Then there is the Urs Ajmer Sharif Festival, held in Ajmer, in memory of the famous Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti. While summer festival in Mt. Abu is held in the only hill station in Rajasthan, the Teej in Jaipur is the festival which celebrates the oncoming monsoon season. This is women's festival where a lot of merriment and gaiety is in the atmosphere with women dressed in bold, attractive colours and finery. The Marwar Festival in Jodhpur, the Pushkar Fair in Pushkar, and the Camel Festival in Bikaner are some of the other popular festivals in Rajasthan.
Festivities of Rajasthan include another famous festival which is known as the Desert Festival. This festival is being held in Jaisalmer, during the month of January and February. This festival involves various interesting shows on the desert sands of Jaisalmer, the Golden City.
Another fair held in January and February is the Baneshwar Fair, held in Baneshwar. This is a religious festival involving traditional rituals, which are quite simple. A lot of tribals from neighbouring Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh take part in this festival in order to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva.
Other than these traditional fairs and festivals, festivities of Rajasthan also include the dance, music, elephant and camel races, etc. which are generally organized for the benefit of the tourists. In Rajasthan, the tourists are in for a festive experience.
