Here are a few travel tips to Rajasthan, which will make your journey to this royal land a pleasant experience. First of all, do remember that summers are scorching in this state. So if you are touring the state in summer, make sure you have with you sun block lotions. Also do carry scarfs, hats, sunscreen lotions, goggles, etc. to escape the heat and the harsh sun. Rajasthan is most hot during April-June, when the temperature varies from 32 to 45 degree centigrade. In some parts of western Rajasthan, the temperature can even escalate to 48 degree centigrade, so people from the cold countries…be better prepared.
At the same time, Rajasthan is characterized by harsh winters. During January, the temperature may plummet to zero degree centigrade in some parts of the state, and if you want to visit Rajasthan during cold seasons, you must be armed with woolens. The best season to visit this state exuding the romance of royal charm is perhaps during October-December. However, do make prior bookings in hotels during peak season to avoid undue hassle. A majority of the hotels in Rajasthan offer currency exchange facilities, but it is still advisable to exchange currencies at the airport.
While touring the forts and palaces, beware of the fake guides who may give you a distorted version of their histories in exchange of some money. Try to get some knowledge about the forts and palaces beforehand through authentic guidebooks, so as to avoid getting duped. The entry fee to forts and palaces in Rajasthan are different for domestic and international tourists. They generally range from Rs. 5 for Indians to Rs.150 for foreigners. However, for cameras and video cameras, additional fees may be levied.
Rajasthan is full of temples and there are some temple codes to be followed while entering a temple. Footwear inside the temple is not at all allowed. There is an arrangement for keeping your footwear safe while you go into the temple.
Though in important cities of Rajasthan, like Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur, you can get the taste of your choice, but don't expect Continental or Chinese cuisines if you are on a desert safari through rural Rajasthan.
While on Rajasthan, try to witness some of its fairs and festivities. Not only you are likely to enjoy them, but these festivities would also help you to get a glimpse of the essentially euphoric spirit of this colourful state.
