Excavations of the mound were done during 1957-1958. 700 BC to 1600 AD era potteries, utensils and busts were excavated. Jajmau houses the Siddhnath and Siddha Devi temples and the tomb of Makhdoom Shah, a famous Sufi saint. Firoze Shah Tughlak built this tomb in 1358.
The Indian Institute of Technology i.e. IIT Kanpur, is one of the best universities in the world. It was started in December 1959. IIT Kanpur is reputed for its computer science education.
