Kanpur is one of the major industrial hubs of North India. It is renowned for its leather, textile works, cotton, flour and vegetable oil mills, sugar refineries and chemical works. Phool Bagh is an eye-catching flower garden, which one must visit during Kanpur tours. Nana Rao Park, built in memory of Nana Sahib, is located on the Mall Road. It is another attraction of the city. Shyam Hari Singhania Art Gallery has a great collection of paintings. It is known for hosting classical musical programs. Kamala Retreat is a private park, which houses a pool, landscaped garden, boating facility and a small zoo. Allen Forest Zoo is a zoo-cum-botanical garden. It was opened in 1971. It is one of the best zoos in the country.

The mound of Jajmau is among the most visited tourist places in Kanpur. It is located on the eastern end of the Kanpur city. Excavations of the mound were done during 1957-1958. 700 BC to 1600 AD era potteries, utensils and busts were excavated. Jajmau houses the Siddhnath and Siddha Devi temples and the tomb of Makhdoom Shah, a famous Sufi saint. Firoze Shah Tughlak built this tomb in 1358.

The Indian Institute of Technology i.e. IIT Kanpur, is one of the best universities in the world. It was started in December 1959. IIT Kanpur is reputed for its computer science education. A Kanpur tours is incomplete if shopping is not enjoyed. Mall Road, Birhana Road, Naveen Market, Meston Road are the main shopping markets of the city. Leather products and cotton fabrics are the main items to shop here. State Government emporiums are the best places for local handicrafts.
