Excursions from Agra

Agra is a fort city located in Uttar Pradesh. It is very famous for the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Jama Masjid, Aligarh and many other gardens which are of places of interest to the tourists. The tourist can arrange to have a planned excursion from Agra which would take you to these prominent parts of Agra. Fatehpur Sikri was an imperial city during the reign of the Mughals during the years 1571 to 1584. The city is located about 45 kms from Agra and was once the capital city of Akbar. Actually the city was made up of 2 districts namely, Fatehpur and Sikri. It was Emperor Akbar who built the city and was very proud of it. The Panchmahal and the Buland Darwaza are some of the important monuments of the city.

Sikandra is located about 80 km from Agra. This tomb of Akbar, which is the center of attraction here is a unique blend of different styles of architecture. The majestic entrance, the delicate Jaali work, Persian calligraphy, intricate patterns and gardens are the features which have been thoughtfully laid out. The famous Sikandra Fort is also located here .The construction of this fort was started by Akbar and completed by Jehangir. Bateshwar is a small town located about 70 kms from Agra. Otherwise quiet, the town bursts with enthusiasm during the 'Kartik' month of Hindu calendar. During this month a huge cattle fair is arranged which is attended by thousands of people.

Jama Masjid is an imperial mosque which was built for Jehanara Begum who was the daughter of Shah Jahan. There are other excursions from Agra which could also be planned. Visit the Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti, Palace of Jodha bai, Birbal Bhavan, Diwan-e-Khaas, Diwan-e-Aam, Hiran Minar, Karawan Sarai, Mathura, Vrindavan, Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, etc.

Mathura is the birth place of Lord Krishna and is a very popular destination among tourists. The Buddhist temple, the Dwarkadheesh temple, Potara Kund, Kans Qila, Katra Masjid, etc. are some popular tourist attractions in Mathura.

While Jaipur is famous for its forts and palaces, Bharatpur bird sanctuary, located at about 56 kms from Agra is famous for the different species of birds that are housed here. Vrindavan is another place which is believed to be the abode of Lord Krishna. It is a very pure and peaceful place.

Aligarh is located at about 80 km from Agra. The buildings of this place are built of red brick and have Moorish style of architecture. The place is very well known for the Aligarh Muslim University. The hill stations of Mussoorie and Dehradun are also located very near Agra and can be reached in a few hours.
