Gun Hill

The foggy hills and cool winds have made Mussoorie a major tourist destination of India. It is the oldest hill station, established during the British reign. Mussoorie commands a breathtaking view of the Doon valley and extensive Himalayan snow covered ranges. There are several peaks worth visiting in Mussoorie and Gun Hill is the second highest among them.

In the olden days during the British reign, a gun used to be fired from this hill top at mid day to denote the time, and hence the hill was named as Gun Hill. The hill offers panoramic view of Mussoorie town, Doon Valley and the snow clad Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Pithwara, Srikantha and Gangotri Group. One can reach this wonderful point by a pathway which starts from Mall Road or can even use ropeway of about 400 meters to have a thrilling and exciting experience. There are many shops on the Gun Hill as it is now a popular picnic spot.

Gun Hill offers to its visitors a thrilling ropeway experience or a trek of about 20 minutes, bird's eye view of Mussoorie as well as Doon Valley, and a panoramic view of the charming snow covered mountain ranges. A visit to this gorgeous place is an unforgettable experience.
