Haridwar Tours

Legend has it that the mighty celestial river Ganga descended on to earth at the very place where Haridwar is situated; at the base of the Shivalik hills. That is why this town or city is called the gateway to the heavens. It is through this very town that any pilgrim can visit the other holy pilgrimage centres, situated high in the mighty Himalayas.

Because Haridwar in recent times has emerged as a great tourist attraction with many thousands of foreign tourists pouring in throughout the year, there is no dearth of restaurants in the town, serving different kinds of food. It is certainly not surprising to find restaurants serving not only North Indian cuisines, but also traditional Bengali dishes and Garhwali food. So if you are in town in Haridwar and feel hungry you can safely drop into any restaurant which is situated in and around the town and sample the fare that they have to offer. Puri sabzi is a particularly delicious eating out option in Haridwar, and this experience should be topped with some hot halwa- a wonderful sweet dish of India.

But be warned, if you are a foreign tourist who is used to taking non-vegetarian food, it would do you well to remember that in this town all the foods served are strictly vegetarian. So while in Haridwar, it is better that you become vegetarian till the time you are here.

Here you can choose from the different varieties of South Indian dosas or rice pancakes to parathas and chana bhathura. You can also indulge in the different types of thallis which are served here. Each thali has a small quantity of plain rice and a few chapattis or puris and served with different kinds of vegetable curries and dhal. It would be worth your while to try this meal at least once, and who knows you may enjoy it very much.

In Haridwar, you will also find lots of road side eateries selling all kinds of foods, like hot samosas, puris, parathas, etc. But everything would taste spicy and tasty, though very different from the Continental food you may be used to if you are a foreigner. While at Haridwar, you should also try out some of the sweet delicacies which are sold in some sweetmeat shops. Overall, eating out in Haridwar can be a delightful experience.
