How to Reach Haridwar

How to Reach Haridwar

If you travel about 214 kms from Delhi towards the north you will be able to reach the ancient holy city of Haridwar, which lies on the right bank of the mighty Ganges, which flows down from the peaks of the Gangotri glaciers of Himalayan mountains. An ancient city, Haridwar has been in existence since time immemorial, and today it is well connected to many other cities in the northern parts of India by both road and rail. How to reach Haridwar is hardly a problem for the travellers and tourists.

Haridwar is the gateway through which pilgrims must travel to visit holy places further up north in the Himalayas like Rishikesh, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Haridwar is so ancient that it has been mentioned in the scriptures and the Vedas.

By road, Haridwar is easily accessible from all major cities in North India and there is now a national highway passing through Haridwar, which ensures a comfortable journey by road. You can avail of private tourist cars to take you from Delhi to Haridwar and back or you can use the private air conditioned buses operated by tour operators. Or if you are a budget traveler who would not mind traveling along with the local people then you can hop on to one of the many state buses which ply to Haridwar regularly.

When you drive down to Haridwar by road you will be able to enjoy the scenic beauty of the plains which slowly wind their way up among the Shivalik range of mountains leading you to Haridwar. You can easily travel to Haridwar from any major city in north India. By private or tourist cars it normally takes anywhere between 61/2 hours to 7 hours to reach the holy city. Many private tourist cars have air conditioned facility.

Another great way to travel from Delhi to Haridwar is by train. There are many trains which leave daily for Haridwar and at convenient timings too. The Shatabdhi which is a fully air-conditioned train leaves for Haridwar twice daily, both in the morning and evening from Delhi. There are also trains which reach Haridwar from cities like Kolkata, Varanasi, and Mumbai. If you prefer traveling at night then there is a train which leaves Delhi for Haridwar daily at night, and reaches Haridwar early in the morning. So how to reach Haridwar has simple answers, which you must explore to experience the essential spirit of this holy city.
