Corbett National Park spreads over an area of about 520 square kilometers. It is located in the State of Uttaranchal in India. The national park was formerly known as Hailey National Park. Later on in 1957 was changed to Corbett National Park. It is a finest national park with lush green forests, scenic beauty and varied wildlife. It was the first national park of India to be covered under the famous Project Tiger. This adventurous park consists of about 580 bird species, 50 mammal species, 25 reptile species and 110 tree species. However, this national park is very much popular for its Royal Bengal Tigers.

There are around 580 species of birds in Corbett National Park. These birds can be categorized according to their features. The water-birds and the waterside-birds in the Corbett National Park include both resident and migrant species. The commonly noticed water birds are Cormorants, the Grey Heron, the Darter, the Cattle Egret, the Spotbill, the Great Crested Grebe, Sandpipers, the Great Black-headed Gull, the White-necked and Black-necked Storks. The owls, the nightjars and the thick-knees are the night birds. Some other birds found are the Large Pied Wagtail, White-capped Redstart, Crested Serpent Eagle, the Himalayan Grey-headed Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Vultures, the Black-winged Kite, Hornbills, Barbets, Woodpeckers and Orioles.

Along with the birds there is also a wide variety of animals found in the dense forests of Corbett National Park. The mammals like Royal Bengal Tiger, Monkey, Elephant, Deer, Antelope, Wild Pig, Leopard, Rhesus Macaque, Jungle Cat, Langur, Fishing Cat, Leopard, Red Fox, Sloth Bear, Mongoose, Otter, Jackal, Indian Civet, Indian Porcupine and Palm Squirrel are found in the park. There are different species of deer found in this national park. They are chital, the well-known spotted deer, the sambar, the largest Asiatic deer, and Muntjac, the barking deer, which is also called kakkar.

Apart from these animals there are various types of reptiles in this national park. The Ramganga River flowing through the park and a lake inside park are the home to reptiles such as the Gharial, which is Fish-eating Crocodile, the Marsh Crocodile, Viper, the Indian Python, Krait, the King Cobra, the Wolf Snake, Cat Snake, Common Monitors, Tortoises and Turtles.

This national park is not only rich in fauna but also rich in its varied flora. The various types of trees include Sal (Shorea Robusta), Sheesam (Dalbergia Sissoo), Dhak (Butea Monosperma), Kanju (Holoptelea) and Khair (Acacia Catechu).

Jeep safaris take you around to view animals and birds in their natural habitat. There is even accommodation facility available in Corbett National Park. It offers hotels, rest houses, lodges and log huts for its visitors.

Corbett National Park has variety of trees, bushes, mammals, reptiles, birds and flowers. It has evergreen forests with a river and lake and many small streams. Wildlife and nature lovers will enjoy the trip to this wonderful national park.
