Kausani

The splendid hill station of Kausani is located in the district of Almora, in the Uttaranchal state of India. It is popularly known as the 'Switzerland of India' as it is surrounded by snow covered mountains. Kausani hill station offers enchanting view of Trishul Peak and Nanda Devi Peak. The town has the majestic mountains with the deep pine forests. It is also the births place of famous poet Sumitra Nandan Pant.

There are several tourist destinations in and around Kausani like Pant Museum, which is located near to the main bus stand. It is named after the great poet who was born in this beautiful hill station. The house of the poet is turned into a museum and has collection of his daily drafts, articles, letters and his awards. Lakshmi Ashram is located in the solitary area, amidst a dense jungle. This is a center run by women who do social service. Gandhiji's disciple, Sarala Behen had spent her life here.

Pinakeshwar is another hill station at a distance of approximately 20 km from Kausani. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Around this place there are Old Pinakeshwar, Gopalkot and Huria. Another dedication to Lord Shiva is Someshwar Temple, built by King Somchand of Chand Dynasty. The most important historical place in Uttaranchal is Baijnath, which is located on the banks of the River Gomti at a distance of about 17 km from this hill resort. The temple here is around 1000 years old and is dedicated to Baijnath. Its carvings and sculptures are admirable.

Chaukori is well known for the view of the Himalayan ranges that it gives. It is about 75 km away from Kausani. Pindkari Glacier is about 58 km from Kausani and popular for treks. Sundardoonga and Kafni Glaciers are more adventurous places for trekkers. The beautiful rocks of Sundardoonga are very popular. The excursions from Kausani can be planned to the hill station of Nainital, Ranikhet and Almora. The nearest airport to this place is Pantnagar Airport. The railway station at Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to Kausani. It is well connected to other important places around by road network.
