Digha is the most famous beach resort of the state of West Bengal. It provides base for the many other beautiful beaches of the state. Shankarpur is one of such beaches. It is a recently discovered virgin beach of the state.
It is a twin beach of Digha, which is just 14 km from it, on the Digha-Contai road. It provides all the enjoyment as that of private beaches. The beach is transfused with the casuarinas plantation. The pleasant climate of this un-spoilt beach is suitable for the casuarinas plantation. Along with the long tree-lined beach, the Shankarpur Fishing Harbor Project is yet another attraction of the place.
Shankarpur is now developing as a sea resort with the tourist lodges, hotels and other modern facilities. Digha plays important role for crediting all the advantages and lessening the crowd of Digha. The Guest Houses of Fisheries Department and Lodges under Benfish are other accommodation facilities of small town. Small private places at affordable rates are also available for accommodation purpose.
Regular buses are available from Kolkatta to Digha. To reach Shankarpur from Digha you can avail local transport facilities like bus or auto rickshaw.
The pleasant climate of Shankarpur provides the best weekend destination for the entire year, but July to March is the best time to visit.
