What to do in Digha

Digha is a beautiful beach resort located in state of West Bengal, India. It has beaches from where one can view both the sunrise and sunset, which are absolutely spectacular. The sea at Digha is quiet and shallow, making it a popular spot for swimming. Digha is a major tourist attraction as river Hooghly merges into the Bay of Bengal at this place. There are many popular places of interest in and around Digha. New Digha is an extension of Digha. It has a small park with a lake, which is a popular tourist destination. Shankarpur is another developed beach resort. It has tourist lodges, hotels and other modern facilities. It is a famous with charming sea and causarian plantations by the side of sea. It is a regular fishing harbour, located at a distance of about 14 km from Digha.

There are several other beach resorts around including Junput, which is about 40 km away from Digha. It offers enchanting sea view and cashew trees by the side of the sea. This beach is clean and unspoiled. Brackish water fish cultivation and research are done in Junput by the State Government Fisheries Department. Mandarmani is located at a distance of approximately 20 km on Digha-Kolkata route. This picnic resort is popular among tourists.

Chandaneshwar is a famous location where one can find a temple of Lord Shiva. This is located at a distance of approximately 8 km from Digha. Also Lankeshwari and Kapal Kundala Temple, which are at a distance of about 14 km and 45 km respectively are worth visiting. Kapal Kundala Temple is an ancient temple related with Bakimchandra's novel Kapal Kundala. People who love to visit temples will not face a question of what to do in Digha.

The tourist can do some shopping during their Digha tours. The items that can be bought from Digha markets include Curios made of sea shells, cashew nuts and the hand-woven mat made of weeds, which is known as madur in West Bengal.
